PROJECTS

Compassion Cart Project
In July of this year we presented and dedicated this Caboose Compassion Cart to C.S. Mott Children's Hospital as a gift from John's Foundation. Scott Newport, who built this cart, is a true craftsman and his work speaks volumes through his woodworking talent. The cart is made from reclaimed wood and will be used for families whose children are in end of life situations. Stocked on the cart will be comfort items for familes and memory making tools for parents, caregivers and siblings.
The dedication was closed with a reflection from a poem I adapted from The Little Ship:
I stood watching as the train rolled down the tracks. The setting sun tinted the gleaming train car with a golden light, and as he disappeared from sight a voice at my side whispered, "He is gone".
But the rails were narrow and further on down the track a little band of friends had gathered to watch and wait in happy expectation. Suddenly, they caught sight of the train and, at that moment when my companion had whispered, "He is gone" a glad shout went up in joyous welcome, "Here he comes!" 💚
Meditation Room
The Meditation Room on 7 East Mott, the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Unit is used for respite for families who are seeking a quiet room. Our family was able to choose artwork, a bookcase and books, and a rug to give the room a "homey" feel.
The room is located at the end of a main hallway giving families an opportunity to have a space for visitors, and a meditative space.
Lego Build Up Cart
Buildup Mobile is a robotics studio designed to promote hands on play and STEAM education through customized programs for patients at C.S. Mott Hospital. Buildup Mobile is ready for any scenario and strives to inspire creative and positive thinking by building an environment of encouragement and healing. The Lego Build Up Cart also provides distraction for patients facing difficult procedures. John's Foundation is a proud sponsor to make this cart available to patients throughout Mott Hospital!
