                                            Dear Family, Friends, and Supporters:

We would like to take this opportunity to share with you the activities of the first year of the John R. Crosby Foundation.

Our first organized event was a full Thanksgiving 2001 dinner for families on the 7th floor of Mott, which is the Pediatric Cancer floor. This help establish the monthly meals for the families and patients on 7 Mott.  This has become an anticipated event where families can get together and relieve some of the stress that is common on this floor.   Many local establishments such as DiBella’s, Original 60’s, and Meijer have contributed by giving discounted pricing on food for these meals. Many friends have contributed by making homemade baked goods and helping out with plates, napkins and any special "favors" that were given out.  We

will be marking the first full year by delivering the Thanksgiving meal for 2002, which once again will be donated by a generous anonymous donor.

The Foundation has also been heavily involved in the donation of fleece blankets, character pillowcases and numerous toys and books for Child Life Services /Giving Library throughout the year.   Monetary donations have been made to the Adrenal Cancer Center, U of M Comprehensive Cancer Center, Mott Hospital, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Fundraising came from many sources demonstrating the strong community love and support we have received. The local Jazzercise group had a fundraiser in conjunction with John's birthday that collected toys, books and raised funds.  Family friends had proceeds from wedding gifts donated to the foundation as well as friends donating proceeds from various sales parties.

Our biggest event was the first annual Lawton School Run-a-thon that benefited both the Lawton School PTO and the Foundation.  The net proceeds, which exceeded $12,000.00, were split evenly between the two groups.  We are very thankful to the many sponsors and volunteers that made this day a big success. Please see the enclosed article for more information regarding this event.

As we write this letter we are planning a holiday party for 7 Mott.  Children and families will decorate cookies, participate in a grab bag, and each family will receive a special gift.

We are currently evaluating additional research opportunities and other projects that fit our goals and mission.

As we continue to preserve John’s memory we want to thank you for your generous support in our quest to support others whose lives have been touched by cancer.

                                            Sincerely,

                                         Walt and Paula Crosby
